JQN – 23-10-2015

Just a Quick Note ~ 23rd October 2015

Dear Member

Our last Litter Pick and workday on the 27th Sepetember had better weather than we have been used to so far this year so the half dozen of us who turned out had a very pleasant few hours up there . We bashed down some bracken, checked the fences for damage and collected several bags of litter. There was a bit of a fly-tip of a mattress, fridge, tyres etc. that we contacted the council about and who collected it later in the week.

These small incidents of fly-tipping seem to be getting more frequent – if you see anything like this you can report it directly to CCBC yourself or if you prefer you can drop me a line and I’ll make sure the message gets through to the right people.

Last Monday, 19th October, we had Maddy Grey come to give us a talk on her pet project “The Cistercian Way” – it proved to be a successful evening with over 25 attendees and a few new members joining us on the night.

The 11th October saw another great event up the Tump, unfortunately it had nothing to do with CTS – the last flight of the Vulcan bomber XH558 went directly over the top of the mountain – a crowd of at least 60 people were up there to witness the impressive event. The pilot must have seen us all on the mountain top as he tipped his wings towards us as he roared past – a great sight. There’s a few photos of it on our website and Facebook page.

If you visit Twmbarlwm this week you will see that the cattle grid has been renewed and the mountainside itself looks very different now that much of the forest has already been removed as part of NRW’s larch clearance. It is very sad to see but if you are interested in seeing the forest and the drive returned to its fullest glory then please consider following “Friends of Cwmcarn Forest Drive” on Facebook

Here are a few dates for your diary, of events we hope you will like to get involved in:
