Walk the Forest Drive

Springtime Walk Around the Cwmcarn Forest Drive

Led by Rob Southall

Saturday 2nd March 2019 10.30 am from Cwmcarn Visitor Centre

Join us for a led walk along the full 8 mile route of the Cwmcarn Scenic Drive. Enjoy the fine mountain scenery and glorious views of the Carn and Ebbw Valleys.

This walk was originally planned for last December but was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

You are probably all aware that most of the Forestry has been felled due to the dreadful disease Phytophora Ramorum that affected the Japanese larch of the forest. Because of this the Forest Drive has been closed for four years and so this walk is an ideal opportunity for you to explore the drive in it’s current form and enjoy the beautiful vistas that have been newly opened.

The walk is with the full permission of Natural Resources Wales and has been organised by Friends of Cwmcarn Forest Drive – our sister organisation who have been campaigning for the re-opening of the drive to the state that we enjoyed all those years ago.

The latest news is that the drive will re-open to traffic in the spring of 2020 – follow FoCFD on their Facebook page for all the up-to-date news.

Meet at the entrance to the Lower Car Park of Cwmcarn Forest Drive Visitor Centre at 10.15am.

We will leave at 10.30am and should return to the Visitor Centre around 2.30pm

It’s FREE to join us on this walk – but any donations to either society would be greatly appreciated

Please ensure you are capable of completing the walk and wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the terrain and weather conditions.

Download the poster below and display it where plenty of people will see it – we need your support for this event and for the campaign to restore the Drive.
